NSDI

National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) represents an integrated geospatial data system, enabling users to identify and access spatial information acquired from different sources, from local via national to global level, in a comprehensive manner.

Modern society requires high quality spatial information for optimal resource management, efficient determination of adequate solutions and continuous development.

Geoinformation today represents a key element in decision making processes, for optimal resource management, data exchange and communication and sustainable development. Development of technology contributed in making geoinformation compulsory elements of a modern society. This technology will only reach its full potential when governments decide to maximize access to geographic information through SDIs.

National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) represents an integrated geospatial data system, enabling users to identify and access spatial information acquired from different sources, from local, via national to global level, in a comprehensive manner.

Spatial information unified within a common infrastructure provides a multitude of possibilities for upgrading public services, while disabling data duplication and data inconsistency.

State Autority for Geospatial Information , with Norway Cadastre Authority Statens Kartverk have started initial activity to establish spatial data infrastructure in Albania in compliance with the European initiatives and trends. Support is based on the best practice in Norway on creating and development of Digital Norway.

Aim of the strategy is to establish an infrastructure, providing support to a high-quality and stable environmental development, coupled with economic growth, through efficient services, fulfilling the needs and demands of the public and private sectors, as well as citizens at large. The strategy presents a framework within which detailed policies can develop to ensure wide use of geoinformation to avoid duplicated effort and reduce administrative burden.

This strategy will lead to creation of NSDI in Albania through following strategic areas:

  1. Cooperation Infrastructure
  2. Spatial data and services
  3. Standardization
  4. Legal framework
  5. Geodetic reference system
  6. Financing and pricing
  7. Research, development and education

Diverse parties will work together on the execution of the strategy by achievement set up goals. The effectiveness of the strategy implementation will depend on the continuing involvement of a wide group of partners in geosector.

State Autority for Geospatial Information (ASIG) is committed to taking the lead in developing the strategy and associated implementation plan. Key roles of ASIG are leadership, develop and promote common infrastructure trough truly collaborative approach among all other interested parties.
