State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG), as the public authority responsible for the “Base Map” theme, has updated the geospatial information layer “Cities (AQTN)” on the National Geoportal.
The production of these maps dates from 1957 to 1993, while the most recent updates have been made only for specific nomenclatures, which are marked in red. The 1:500 scale maps, preserved in the archive of the former Geology-Geodesy Enterprise, are topographic maps containing a wide range of information on features and elevations. They depict detailed natural and man-made elements such as irrigation and drainage canals, buildings, roads, and other infrastructure.
The 1:500 scale map sheets were created using the tacheometric surveying method by the former Geology-Geodesy Enterprise. The main mission of this institution was the production of maps and plans for urban areas and major engineering projects at scales of 1:500 and 1:1000.
The completed works were based on the national geodetic system established by the enterprise’s own specialists. The map sheets recently published cover the cities of Berat, Delvinë, Gjirokastër, Këlcyrë, Memaliaj, Përmet, Sarandë, Tepelenë, and Dimal.
The data comply with the National Standard for Technical Specifications of Geospatial Information in Albania under the “Base Map” theme, approved by Council of Ministers Decision No. 732, dated 27.11.2024.
